What if You Could Make Money Doing What You Love to Do?
I love meeting new people! I love talking with them and learning about them; their experiences, their interests, their fears, and their dreams. This has given me a unique perspective into their deep down desires.
One recurring thing I hear is how dissatisfied so many people are with their current careers or jobs. And how insecure they feel financially.
I know this isn’t really news, I mean let’s face it, the media reminds us all the time of just how fragile our economy is and the painful effect of inflation. And I’m here to say, turn it off! Stop listening to that crap because it’s actually holding you back from designing a life that provides you with all of the financial security you desire using the skills you already have!
When you’re good at something, you love doing it!
I recently listened to an audiobook called “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” by Cal Newport and he opened up the book with “Rule #1: Don’t Follow Your Passion”.
This seemed counter-intuitive at first and is certainly contrary to what we hear most of the time, but as I listened to his reasoning, it actually made a hell of a lot of sense! In fact, the more I considered it, the more I agreed with him!
When you set out to learn something new, you have an interest in it, but you may not necessarily be passionate about it. Unless you start getting good at it. Then you may begin developing a passion for it that you may one day decide to pursue as a way to make money with it, whether you’re using that skill on a new career path, or you start a business with it.
I know a woman who, in her 40's, decided to take up oil painting. She’d never done it before, but as she developed her skill with it, she became wildly passionate about it. Today she runs her own gallery! She is a perfect example of someone who is making money doing what she loves to do!

How to Get Started
The first thing you need to do is identify the one thing you love doing. It’s most likely going to be something you’re really quite good at. It could be a hobby or it could be a skill you’ve acquired. It could also be something that has come natural to you.
In my case, I realized after decades of working with others and building teams, that I have a natural knack for coaching and leadership. When I began to really give it thought, I realized it was something I’ve just always done without even being aware of it. The question was, what to do with it?
And that will be your next question to answer. What are the different ways in which you can use this skill. Remember my friend mentioned earlier. She developed such a love for painting that she opened a gallery where she could sell her work.
I love helping people become entrepreneurs. Exploring options and helping them do things they never thought possible exhilarates me! I get excited brainstorming ideas with them and then helping them develop a plan to make it all work. So I took the coaching courses I needed to support doing what I love and created my coaching business around that.
Once you’ve brainstormed ideas around the thing you do best, then you can start putting together a plan to make money with it. That may require you to invest in additional training or you may already have the skills to pull it off. You’ll know more about that once you start developing your plan.
The one thing I know for sure, is that we all have the ability to make more money doing the thing we do best. We just might need a little help visualizing it. And that’s what I do best!
